Acne sufferers have one thing in common, they want a remedy fast.  But with so many acne remedies available, how can you know which one is the best for your needs?

Many remedies, many results

The truth about acne remedies is that no single remedy will work perfectly for every single person.Unfortunately people react in different ways to acne remedies. This explains why there are so many acne remedies available. There is no, one size fits all, solution. This means that unless luck is on your side, a process of trial and error is inevitable.

Below are some suggestions to help you navigate through the process of looking for a remedy to treat your acne:

1.You should start with clean skin.By focusing on clean skin you are making life difficult for one of the main contributory factors of acne, bacteria. It is important to have a consistent routine of washing your face with a mild face wash, specifically formulated for acne-prone skin, each morning and each evening.

2.Improve your routine by adding an anti-acne formula.Sometimes just keeping your face clean by regularly washing it will take care of your acne. If it doesn’t then move up to a face wash product containing a slightly stronger anti-acne formula.Any formula containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can be considered a good choice. As with many medications, different strengths are available. The advised method is to start with a relatively mild one and if necessary move up to a stronger one.

3.Change your anti-acne formula. There is no guarantee your skin will respond favourably to a particular acne remedy, or that your existing remedy will continue to work well.Sometimes changing your anti-acne formula from salicylic acid to benzoyl peroxide or benzoyl peroxide to salicylic acid is all that is required to dramatically improve the condition of your skin.

4.Ask your doctor for other options.Your doctor or dermatologist can offer specialist help and advice if your, over the counter acne remedy, hasn’t provided the results you wanted. There is help available to you as you try and get your acne under control. Your doctor can choose from a wide range of topical creams, gels and mild antibiotics.  For many people, spending just a few weeks or months using an antibiotic treatment is enough to get their acne under control and allow them to go back to using over the counter acne remedies.

Time, the great healer

The most important thing to remember about acne remedies is that they do take some time to work.Don’t expect too much too soon. The improvement should be gradual but sustainable.Hopefully your patience will be rewarded with an improvement in your condition. If not, or if the improvement is not as dramatic as you would like then move up to the next level of care for a few weeks and monitor the results.

If, however, your acne is quite severe or you have a negative reaction to one or more of the acne remedies you try, by all means don’t delay in going to see your doctor. One positive thing to remember is that there are a number of different acne remedies which work in a number of different ways.  With some professional guidance from your doctor or dermatologist, a little bit of patience, and a little bit of time, you can get relief for your acne and find yourself enjoying the self-confidence and comfort that comes with clean, acne-free skin.
